Yokoo, I'm so in love with you

I am such an Etsy girl and I can't tell you how many times I've stepped out of my apartment and wished for this huge cowl from Yokoo. Versitile and scandelously warm, it can be rocked as a shawl, head-cover or anything you can think up. The only thing that's certain is that you'll be warm and you'll look so luxe. I know you're all out there making your christmas lists; you should take a peek at the rest of her amazing knit accessories

Recessionista: Fall Trends, Target Style

By: Kt McBratney

October 21st, 2008

While I spend hours perusing the photos and look books from ready-to-wear collections, I have to come back to my reality: I can’t get a single one of the looks I lust after. Blame it on the economy, being a young professional or my bad habit of ordering take-out instead of cooking, the fact remains that my fashion is frugality challenged.

Enter Target. Surprisingly, I’ve found they’re not too behind the trend curve this season, of course, without the expletive-rant inducing price tags. Here’s some of my favorite now looks that will leave you looking hot with enough cash to treat yourself to sushi.

Clockwise: purple booties, $39.99, Sigerson Morrison; ribbon bow headbands, 2-pack for $7.99, Xhilaration; plaid shirtdress, $19.99, Mossimo; yellow patent belt, $9.99, Xhilaration; gray pyramid clutch, in-store only, Mossimo; ivory bow blouse, SALE $7.50, Isaac Mizrahi

New York Fashion Week Spring 2008 - Tent(2)

...well, not actually fashion week, per se...

More like, I'll be in the same city, for the same week that very important fashion festivities are taking place. Though, I wont let the lack of invites keep me down, I plan on conniving my way into any place that will have me.

I'll keep BlackBook's list of a 'Top 5 Places To Spot Fashion Week Royalty' on hand and hope for the best.

Keep your fingers crossed and don't for get to follow me on Twitter to read the play by play of my adventure.

It's Like a Bra, For Your Ass

By: Jessica Plesko

August 22nd, 2008

I’m all for wearing the right underwear with the right outfit. I don’t like VPLs as much as the next girl, but when I saw this new contraption made by a company called Bubbles Bodywear I had to laugh out loud. It’s called the Double-O Push-Up Thong and it’s basically a bra, FOR YOUR ASS. Supposedly, it lifts, shapes and volumizes the butt. I’m not sure I want my butt volumized, but okay. And at $64, I’m skeptical of the results, but at the same time intrigued. Would you wear these? Doesn’t it look like it would give you even worse lines underneath your clothes? Wouldn’t exercising be an more permanent alternative?

No More Mayle

By: Jessica Plesko

August 18th, 2008

First Jovovich-Hawk, now Mayle. With the economy in a downward spiral, many smaller fashion labels are feeling the crunch. Sadly, WWD reported today that Jane Mayle’s holiday-resort collection would be her last and the boutique she operates in New York is closing in February when her lease runs up.

But Mayle says it wasn’t the economy that made her decide to close up shop after 10 years. To her, it was the “out of whack delivery cycles” and pressure by increased media attention.

“It seems like a commercial cul-de-sac in a way that the customer gets tired before the collections even hit stores,” Mayle said. “How I came to this business was all about dreaming and building a wardrobe you would be seduced by. That mystery and remoteness and insouciance have disappeared from fashion in order to accelerate the product. I feel I have just become another cog in that machinery.”

It’s not all bad news though, Mayle is quick to say she isn’t totally getting out of the business.

“What I learned from having this business, I could apply anywhere,” she said. “It could be interiors, graphics, scents — anything evoking an atmosphere. That’s where I’d like to situate myself.”
